This is the main window for Gift Exchange. The first column lists the names of the people to receive gifts. The second column is the total number of gifts each person is to receive. You can double click on the information in these two columns to set the values. The remaining columns are informational only. You can change the values in these columns, however, when you begin the gift exchanging, they will be reset to initial values by the program.
Click the Add one person button to add more people to the list. If you have selected a row, the person will be added following the selected person. Click the Remove people button to remove people from the list. If you have selected any rows, they will be deleted. If you have not selected a row, the last in the list will be removed.
Click the Begin gift exchange button to open the Gift Exchange window and begin handing out presents. Be sure to have your little Santa's Helper available to help with the gift delivery.

The Gift Exchange window is the display for helping to pass out the presents. Each square lists the name of a person, the person's gift status, number of presents received, number of presents since this person last received a gift, and number of presents this person has left to receive.
The statuses possible are:
Ready - This person is ready to receive a gift (green);
Hurry - This person is overdue for a gift (red);
Soon - This person will soon be ready to receive a gift (blue);
No - This person is not due to receive a gift (brown);
Dont - This person has no more gifts left (grey).
Besides the statuses and rectangle colors to help determine who should receive the next gift, the individual colors become brighter with each gift. In other words, in the picture, Sierra (last in second row) is more ready to receive a gift than is Arya (last in first row).
When you pass out a present, you will need to click the mouse on the square of the person that received the gift. The status and color of that square will then change to reflect that the person has received a gift. All of the other squares will also change, to indicate who should next receive a gift. You may give a gift to anyone at any time, but in order to best evently distribute the gifts, you should choose a person with a brightly colored green rectangle, or a red one if there is one.

The File menu has few useful items. New will create an empty list and reset everything to defaults. Open allows opening a previously saved gift exchange file. You can also open a plain text file or .rtf file. The file content should be a name on one line, followed by a gift amount on the next line, etc. for each person.

The open recent menu contains a list of recently opened or saved files, for your convenience to open. When Gift Exchange is started up, the first item in this menu will auto open. The close window closes the Gift Exchange window if it is open. Save and Save As allow saving the name and present list. It does not save the current number of presents handed out or any other status information.
All other menus and menu items are under control of the Macintosh OS and will exhibit default behavior for the system. Note that there are no preferences, yet.

The tools menu is where you will find the controls for the gift exchange. Add One adds a person to the list. Remove One removes a person from the list. Choosing either of these while the Gift Exchange window is open will have unpredictable results. Begin Gift Exchange starts the gift exchanging. The Suggest Person menu is described below. Auto Finish will cause the squares to be automatically selected continuously. Finish Faster and Finish Slower change the speed that Auto Finish selects squares. You may also person the left or right arrow keys. Blink Faster and Blink Slower changes the speed at which suggested squares blink. You may also press the option key and left or right arrow keys. Pause temporarily stops the Auto Finish option. Show Blinking Lights will cause the Gift Exchange window (if open) to display stars instead of the person information. The Gift Exchange function is not possible with the star display on. Click a sqaure to turn that star light on. Auto Finish will automatically become selected, so the stars will auto light up on their own. Push the right arrow to increase the blinking to a desireable rate. Choose an item from the Suggest Person menu if you want, or none to blink randomly.

The Suggest Person menu helps you to determine who should receive the next gift. Select Top Priority to blink the square(s) of the people that are most due a present. This is based upon the status, and the brightness of the square. If more than one person has the same priority, multiple squares will blink. The remaining items in the menu are self-obvioius in their meaning.

The colors menu chooses the colors of the blinking lights. The first 7 items cause all of the lights to be that color. Patterned sets the lights to all of the colors in sequence. Multi assigns a random color to each light. Random also assigns a random color to each light, but they will also change randomly as the lights blink.
